Application Information

The program typically receives 90-100 applications and interviews approximately 10 applicants. Applications must be completed by January 31st of the preceding year (i.e. apply in 2009 for a position in 2011). Decisions about interviews are generally made by the end of January, but interview offers may still be extended after that date. Please contact Lisa Scott if you have any questions about the application process.

ERAS Applications

Applications for the fellowship program are accepted through ERAS. Information about the ERAS application process can be found on the ERAS website. The application process differs for applicants trained in internal medicine or pediatrics.

Pediatric Position

Pediatric-trained applicants and Med-Peds trained applicants should apply through ERAS under the pediatric track. Please see the goals and objectives for the fellowship on this website for additional information about the fellowship program. Please note that all the information requested under the ERAS system is required, including the Dean's letter, all personal letters of recommendation, and personal statement. Submission of a photograph is optional, but helps the admission committee to personalize applicants and better recall individual applicants.

Medicine Position

ABIM eligible applicants should apply through ERAS; however to be accepted to the UCLA Fellowship Program, they must also become a candidate in the UCLA Department of Medicine STAR Program, which offers the opportunity to combine clinical fellowship training with advanced research training to complete a graduate degree (either a Ph.D. or a Master of Science degree, depending on the path chosen). Fellows who enter the Program with M.D./Ph.D. degrees will have support and protected time to pursue postdoctoral research; information about the STAR Program is available at www. star.med.ucla.edu. After an application file for the Fellowship Program is complete and has been reviewed by the Clinical Immunology and Allergy Admissions Committee, each suitable candidate who demonstrates the potential for a career as a clinician-scientist will be notified and instructed to complete the STAR Program application. An applicant cannot be admitted to the STAR Program without first being identified as a suitable candidate in the Clinical Immunology and Allergy Program. Thereafter, dossiers of suitable ABIM eligible applicants will be forwarded for review by the STAR Admission Committee. Acceptance to both programs is required to become a Fellow.

Foreign National Applicants

UCLA policy requires a J-1 visa issued through the ECFMG to be considered for fellowship, except in exceptional circumstances, such as having attended a US medical school. Please contact the program directly if you feel your circumstances warrant special consideration.
